Mercer Capital to Participate in a Business Valuation 101 CLE Session

The Memphis Bar Association is sponsoring a CLE event on Friday, December 13th entitled “Business Valuation 101.” Mercer Capital professionals Karolina Calhoun, CPA/ABV/CFF and David W. R. Harkins are the speakers.

About the Session: The valuation of a business can be a complex process, requiring certified business valuation and forensic accounting professionals. This session takes a dive into the process and methodologies used in a valuation and situations that give rise to valuation services such as estate/tax planning, ESOP annual valuation, M&A transactions, GAAP/ financial reporting, family law marital dissolution, buy-sell disputes, commercial litigation, and other litigation and financial advisory situations. In other words, the “Why?” and “How?” of business valuation.

About the Speakers

Karolina provides valuation and advisory services for family law, gift & estate planning, commercial & business litigation, M&A, in a diverse range of industries on local, national, and international levels. With her forensics accreditation, she provides economic and financial damages studies, asset tracing, lost profits, and lifestyle analysis. Prior to joining Mercer Capital, Karolina was a Senior Auditor at EY. Karolina is the Valuation Chair of the AICPA’s Forensic and Valuation Services Conference Committee and a member of the AICPA’s CFF Task Force. In 2018, she received the Forensic and Valuation Services (FVS) Standing Ovation award, presented by the AICPA to professionals for significant contributions in their specialty areas and in their communities. Karolina is the President of the Memphis Chapter of TSCPAs.

David has valuation experience in engagements related to corporate planning and reorganizations, fairness opinions, litigation support, employee stock ownership plans, and estate and gift tax planning and compliance matters. He has provided valuation services to companies across a variety of industries and has considerable experience working with upstream oil and gas companies, as well as auto dealers. Along with Mercer Capital’s Energy group, David publishes research on valuation issues related to the oil and gas industry in the newsletter Value Focus: Exploration & Production. He also contributes regularly to Mercer Capital’s Energy Valuation Insights blog.  In addition, David has successfully completed all three levels of the Chartered Financial Analyst (The CFA Institute) exam and will receive the charter upon completion of the required work experience.
